The simple answer is “because they work.”
Intravenous (IV for short) vitamins, minerals, and other medicinal preparations are effective treatments for many health problems, including tiredness, low immune function, a toxic metal burden, asthma, and many other conditions. Intravenous treatments are direct medical treatments that are effective.
In September 1995, the first week I was licensed as a naturopathic doctor, I treated my first patients with IV vitamins. Specifically, I used a general nutritional formulation with magnesium, Vitamin B Complex, B 5, B 6, and B 12, supplied by a compounding pharmacist. I have used this same general formula for 29 years. Note that each treatment is customized to the individual needs of each patient.
The general formula I use is known as the “Myers Cocktail.” I first heard about it during a two-day professional conference in Portland, Oregon, in 1994, during my third year of naturopathic school. During that conference, the famous medical doctors Jonathon Wright and Allan Gaby presented the latest published medical research on nutrition and herbal medicine. I remember the conference being a remarkable experience. In a pre-internet world, these two doctors gave a two-day running lecture, quoting research papers and adding their discussion of those papers. The depth of their memory and discussion of the wide range of health issues was astounding.
During one segment of the presentation, Dr. Gaby recounted his experience as a new MD in a medical office in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Gaby was filling in for the Medical Doctor John Myers. Dr. Gaby quickly encountered patients who wanted their usual treatment, the “cocktail you put in the arm.” Dr. Gaby was quickly brought up to speed on the IV Vitamin formula that Dr. Myers was using with many of his patients. Dr. Gaby has taught doctors the use of that same “Myers Cocktail” for decades.
