Diabetes is a health condition where blood sugar levels are uncontrolled and go too high.

Blood sugar levels are generally regulated between 3.3 to 6.0 milli moles per litre. When they go above this level sugar will move into and accumulate in areas of the body such as nerves, blood vessel walls, the lens of your eyes, and other unwanted areas. This sugar load will contribute to “glycation”.

Sugar, also known as glucose, when it combines with proteins, fats, and other parts of our body is called glycation. Glycation makes blood vessels brittle, nerves will fire off at a higher rate or not at all, and eye cataracts will form. Glycation is a life shortening health issue.

I have offered my patients the intravenous medical treatment of chelation since 2000. Chelation is a treatment that removes toxic metals from a person’s body, as well as moving calcium deposits from soft tissue such as arteries back into the bones.

Chelation has been promoted as a treatment for diabetic complications. In July of 2014 the results of a study on chelation by the “National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine” was published. It is known as the TACT study. This study tracked the results of chelation with 1,708 patients over a median duration of 55 months.

The TACT study found that there was a 41% relative risk reduction in combined cardiovascular events, compared to the participants who received placebo. There was a 33% reduction in coronary revascularization procedures among the diabetic patients receiving chelation.

This means that while high blood sugar increases your risk of heart disease, that risk was reduced significantly when the level of toxic metals was reduced.

Chelation is an important health care option for diabetics.
